Octavia was the quintessential tragic San Francisco hipstress. She never had any money and went from job to job, but always managed to work at appropriately hip venues -- bead shops, vintage clothing stores, used record stores, etc. She showed up at all the cool underground raves, clubs, parties and concerts, always in some stunning one-of-a-kind vintage outfit. In fact, I saw her closet once, and all that was there was such outfits -- all from thrift stores, she said, and I could only wonder how many countless hours she spent putting them together.
